This piece of pottery was found around 1950 by Chris & Steve's grandfather, Boyd Rinehart.
It is estimated to be approximately 1000 years old!
It is known in the archeological community as an effigy vessel, which is  a piece made in the form of a human or an animal.  This type of pottery was common during the Mississippian Era.

It is now in the possession of a distant relative.  This picture was taken at "The Antiques Roadshow."

What about these Mounds?

We are graced with the presence of two authentic Mississippian Era Mounds.

The Mississippian Culture was a community of peoples that lived in the Midwestern & Southeastern US from around 800-1500 AD.
They were a mound building Native American society that relied on maize production and fishing.  Archeologists estimate at its peak,
this village inhabited 600 villagers!
A metropolitan area for its time!!
You may find out more about them by clicking HERE or HERE.

The Mounds will be available for public viewing during our group tourshayrides.

Native American education and appreciation will be part of our cirriculum during Fall group tours.
